The Heavy Equipment and Vehicle Mechanic serves as the essential backbone of ground mobility and construction equipment readiness across the Nine Mile Training Center (9MTC) range complex. The Heavy Equipment and Vehicle Mechanic oversees the maintenance, repair, and sustainment of a diverse fleet of heavy construction equipment and tactical wheeled vehicles, ensuring all assets remain mission-ready and meet stringent safety and operational standards. Primary duties include performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on bulldozers, excavators, graders, cranes, HMMWVs, and logistics vehicles; executing PMCS programs; diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system faults; coordinating repair parts requisition and accountability; enforcing safety and regulatory compliance; and maintaining accurate maintenance records and readiness reporting. This position is specifically suited for candidates with a background as a Navy Seabee Construction Mechanic (CM) or Air Force Vehicle Management and Analysis specialist (AFSC 2T3X1).

Onboarding & Safety Orientation: Integrate into organization; understand shop safety expectations, OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926 requirements, ground guide procedures, and baseline compliance standards. PMCS & Technical Manual Application: Execute preventive maintenance schedules and document faults and corrective actions per applicable OEM technical manuals and organizational maintenance policies. Diesel Engine & Hydraulic Systems Repair: Diagnose and repair diesel engine systems and hydraulic components including pumps, cylinders, valves, and hose assemblies across heavy construction equipment platforms. Drivetrain, Brake & Suspension Systems: Perform maintenance and repair of transmissions, differentials, torque converters, undercarriage systems, air/hydraulic brakes, and suspension components. Electrical Systems & ECM Diagnostics: Diagnose and repair heavy equipment electrical systems including CAN bus networks, ECMs, charging systems, and starting circuits using advanced diagnostic tools. Fleet Readiness, Parts Coordination & CDL Operations: Manage parts requisition, inventory accountability, maintenance tracking systems, and CDL Class A vehicle operations to sustain fleet readiness across mixed assets. ASE & OEM Certification Preparation & Applied Delivery: Build ASE Heavy Equipment and OEM certification competency through applied maintenance tasks, structured study, and scenario-based practice assessments.
