Job description:
The WG-3414-08 Machine Tool Operator position will be a 120-day skills and knowledge transfer of current Machine Tool Operator experience into the Army Civilian Sector. Feedback sessions with the participant and the SkillBridge POCs will be conducted at the midpoint and conclusion of the placement for programmatic improvement. Skills transfer can be adapted based on developmental needs of the participant. Major Duties: Performs machining duties in support of a myriad of Depot’s special fabrication projects. Operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, boring mills, milling machines, grinding machines, screw machines, radial drills, etc. to machine items such as bolts, screws, pins, catches after the machine has been set up and checked for proper operation by a higher-grade worker. Operates a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine (CNC in automatic mode) of only one type for production runs involving standard operations, controlling machine feeds and speeds and using different cutting tools for successive operations.

Applicant must possess a Target MOC listed or civilian experience equivalent. Pre-employment physical is required. Physical Effort: The work requires standing, stooping, bending, and reaching. The incumbent frequently handles, lifts, and carries objects weighing up to 40lbs. Occasionally, the incumbent may be required to lift and move items in excess of 40lbs, but only with the assistance of coworkers or weight handling devices. Working Conditions: The work is performed inside well-lit, adequately heated and ventilated shop area. Shop is usually noisy and dirty and there is constant danger to the skin and eyes from flying metal chips, abrasive articles, and hot metal. Subject to skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds. Constant danger to fingers, hands, and other body parts from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces, etc. Safety glasses are mandatory and safety shoes are necessary.
