Summary description:
The goal of the King County Sheriff’s Office SkillBridge Program is to provide service members with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience through structured criminal justice training within the King County Sheriff’s Office by:• Learning and participating in simulated Sheriff’s deputy tasks.• Developing an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a Sheriff’s deputy.• Participating in training that introduces the fundamentals of law enforcement, with the opportunity to attend the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA) and ultimately become a commissioned Deputy Sheriff with the King County Sheriff’s Office.
Job description:
All deputies begin their careers on patrol. Jail service is not required. Our deputies gain a strong sense of ownership in their communities by interacting with the residents, business owners, and visitors in the area. Job duties include, but are not limited to:Patrol a designated area of the county and respond to calls for service.Interview victims and witnesses, secure and gather evidence.Complete all administrative tasks such as incident and arrest reports.Investigate family disputes and reports of maltreatment of children. Respond to calls of service involving persons with social or behavioral problems.Be a resource to the community and seek opportunities to participate in community activities. Testify in court and present facts and observations accurately and objectively.
Training locations varies around King County. BLEA is in the city of Burien.

This program follows the King County Sheriff’s Office entry-level hiring process and procedures, providing service members the opportunity to join the agency while completing pre-BLEA training, the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA), and post-BLEA training. Upon successful completion of BLEA and the SkillBridge Program, participants will receive an offer for employment as a fully commissioned King County Sheriff’s Deputy.
