Position OverviewPosition is 40 hour/week, with salary. This position acts as museum design and exhibit manager for the Arizona Copper Art Museum (ACAM). Work closely with museum staff to plan and execute the conception, design, development, artifact restoration, installation of exhibits, and renovation of a historic building to support the museum's mission and goals. Must have vision, drive, and creativity and be passionate and resilient to significant guest engagement. This individual serves as a museum representative in interactions with prospective host venues, prospective clients, and daily patrons. Position may require travel to meet with exhibit providers and experience featured exhibits, gift store product fabricators, museum acquisition providers, events, and retreat locations. Includes attendance at meetings inside and outside of the museum. The work environment is primarily museum enclosed and an annex with construction requirements.ResponsibilitiesPerform a broad range of duties involving the research, design, floorplan, installation, buildout, and maintenance of a museum and its exhibits and galleries and integrating them while revitalizing a historic building. Responsible for the creative content, development processes, restorative efforts, and interpretative deliverables through all phases, from initial planning through final design, installation, construction, and evaluation.Additional Responsibilities:Maintain all museum exhibit features, infrastructure, and equipment. Will work day-to-day with stakeholders, fabricators, and contractors throughout the planning, construction, and delivery cycle.Play a key role in setting and maintaining military and historical accuracy standards for the guest experience. Performs accessioning, deaccessioning, research, and related conservation practices.Translates military language and historical information into forms people can experience and understand in the world today.Participate in developing and implementing processes to measure audience reaction to and satisfaction with exhibits.Converse with immersive military stories to engage the senses and involve our audiences in realization. Incorporate multi-sensory storytelling and experiential ideas. Prepare and deliver internal and public presentations about the role of copper and the museum.Skills and Abilities: Familiarity with historic architecture, construction, methods of renovation, and museum integration.Strong and diverse knowledge of museum vocabulary in developing drawings, floor plans, perspectives, build-out, and interaction with museum patrons.Must be self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills and strong attention to detail.Demonstrates in-depth understanding of exhibit production skills (carpentry, cabinetry, electrical lighting, programming) and must work successfully with representatives from construction trades and inspectors.Able to interact effectively with a broad spectrum of age levels and cultural backgrounds, especially retired military and veterans of the highest ranks.Proven track record of articulating, motivating, and explaining to people.Proficient in standard productivity software, including Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Excel, Google Suite, and Internet connectivity.Passion for creating a world-class museum that is unrivaled in content and recognized for a truly outstanding guest experience. Qualifications, Education, Knowledge:Have senior military instructor training - of senior Non-Commissioned and Commissioned Officers grades.Have served at least ten years in an Artillery, Armor, Infantry, Cavalry, or Ordnance MOS with experience in ammunition types and calibers.Must know historical military artworks produced from metal, especially from WW1.A thorough understanding of copper and its alloys in all art appreciation and historical aspects.Have served as director, officer, or member on a museum, heritage conservancy, historical commission, or historical society board.Conditions of Employment:Be able to lift 70 poundsWear protective equipment as requiredMust complete Skill Bridge Program
