This position is located in the Office of Air and Radiation, Office of Atmospheric Protection, Stratospheric Protection Division (SPD) in Washington, DC. SPD is seeking an environmental engineer/physical scientist interested in managing programs to protect the Earth’s stratospheric ozone layer and tackle climate change. In SPD, we phase out ozone-depleting substances (ODS) and phase down hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) which are potent climate damaging gases. We accomplish this through domestic regulations under the Clean Air Act and the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act, international engagement including under the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, and partnership programs. The chemicals we regulate are used in a variety of applications such as refrigeration, air conditioning, fire suppression, solvents, and aerosols. Job description:
This position offers an opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team responsible for implementing programs that are a critical to addressing climate change and protecting the ozone layer. We are looking for a highly-motivated, results-oriented team member who is eager to learn and join our team. Duties include:• Collect and review data and information to inform the development of technical and policy analyses, tools, and documents that support regulatory development, reporting, and implementation of regulations developed by SPD.• Analyze data and perform statistical analyses support to assess compliance with domestic regulations under the Title VI of the CAA and the AIM Act. • Provide technical, data, and policy support to assist in the development and implementation of regulations developed by SPD.• Develop communications materials about SPD and EPA’s regulatory and non-regulatory programs, policies, and technical analyses internally and externally to key stakeholders including industry and environmental organizations. • Engage with industry standards setting bodies including such as ASHRAE, UL, and National Fire Protection Association and ensure that EPA is up to date on how they ensure the safety requirements for equipment in key sectors including fire suppression, and refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps.

In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have specialized experience and/or directly related education in the amounts shown below:• GS-7: 1 year of graduate-level education or bachelor-level education with superior academic achievement and/ or 1 year equivalent to at least GS-5.• GS-9: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree and/or 1 year equivalent to at least GS-7.
