The Intelligence and National Security Analyst SkillBridge Internship offers hands-on training within the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Office of Intelligence and National Security (OINS) to demonstrate how intelligence supports a non-Title 50 executive agency. Participants gain practical experience in protective intelligence, threat analysis, SCIF operations, and interagency coordination to protect Department personnel, facilities, and strategic economic interests.

The Intelligence and National Security Analyst SkillBridge Intern will receive structured, hands-on training within the U.S. Department of Commerce's Office of Intelligence and National Security (OINS). This internship provides exposure to intelligence operations within a non-Title 50 Executive Branch agency, illustrating how intelligence supports the Department's mission in economic security, technology protection, critical infrastructure security, executive decision-making, and national security.Participants will acquire practical experience in protective intelligence, intelligence support to Department of Commerce bureaus, operating units, and senior executives, intelligence support for economic security initiatives, cyber hygiene, travel threat assessments, executive travel security planning, protective risk assessments supporting the Secretary of Commerce, and identification, review, and assessment of threats affecting Department personnel, facilities, operations, and official travel. Additionally, participants will learn how to develop and refine Key Intelligence Questions (KIQs) that drive intelligence requirements, support executive decision-making, and inform operational planning.Under the direction of the Office Director, who serves as the Department's Federal Senior Intelligence Coordinator (FSIC), participants will gain an understanding of how intelligence supports the Department of Commerce and enables informed, risk-based decisions across the enterprise. The internship will provide exposure to the Federal Intelligence Coordination Office (FICO), including coordinating intelligence support to Department leadership, integrating Intelligence Community information into Department operations, supporting strategic planning, facilitating interagency collaboration, and ensuring intelligence activities align with the Department's economic and national security priorities.Participants will receive instruction in the management and operation of Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs), including Intelligence Community security policies, physical security standards, access control procedures, visitor management, safeguarding classified information, accountability requirements, and responsibilities associated with maintaining secure facilities that support classified operations.Throughout the internship, participants will observe how intelligence supports executive leadership through protective intelligence, executive risk assessments, travel security, special event planning, continuity of operations, and mission assurance activities. Guided by experienced intelligence and security professionals, participants will develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to support intelligence integration within a non-Title 50 Executive Branch agency and gain a comprehensive understanding of how the OINS protects Department personnel, information, facilities, and strategic interests in support of the Department of Commerce's mission.
