Summary description:
Global K9 Protection Group (GK9PG) offers all eligible transitioning service members canine handler internships and the opportunity to excel as a professional K9 handler. GKPG offers this as a path for the Service member to gain the required skills that are required to become a certified detection canine handler. Service members will receive a canine handler internship certification upon completion of the course. This internship will span 16 weeks of canine handler training. The course days and hours are Monday-Friday from 0700-1600. All training is conducted in Opelika, AL.
Job description:
During the canine handler internship, the service member will be coached and instructed on canine care and maintenance, canine health and first aid, principals of conditioning, and initial canine detection imprinting of target odor. The service member will be taught and instructed on detection handling methods while working the canine in operational areas. This training will better prepare the service member for a professional career as a working dog handler.After completion of the internship, the service member is eligible to apply for Full-Time employment with GK9PG as a detection dog handler. Please check position the company website for position requirements, and for available locations/positions.If the service member desires full-time employment with GK9PG, they must be able to begin employment with 30 days of course completion.
BEQ is available at the US Army Installation, Fort Moore GA. Please contact the Soldiers for Life Center - Fort Moore. If lodging is not available on Fort Moore, GK9PG can provide lodging for a nightly rate of $40.00.(space available)
