SkillBridge Position: Golf Course Maintenance InternPosition Title: SkillBridge Golf Course Maintenance InternProgram Duration: 90–180 Days (based on SkillBridge approval)Position Summary:The Golf Course Maintenance SkillBridge Internship provides transitioning service members with hands-on training in golf course and landscape management. Participants work under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and maintenance staff to learn industry-standard practices in turfgrass management, irrigation, equipment operation, landscaping, and grounds maintenance. The internship develops the technical and leadership skills needed for employment in the golf course maintenance industry.Duties and Responsibilities:Perform daily golf course maintenance to ensure high-quality playing conditions.Mow greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and other turf areas using specialized equipment.Rake and maintain bunkers, repair divots, and repair ball marks.Trim trees, shrubs, and landscape features using hand and power equipment.Assist with irrigation system inspections, repairs, and watering schedules.Apply fertilizers, seed, topdressing materials, and other turf management products under supervision.Operate utility vehicles, tractors, mowers, blowers, string trimmers, and other maintenance equipment safely.Maintain equipment by cleaning, fueling, and performing routine inspections after each use.Follow all OSHA, environmental, and workplace safety procedures, including proper PPE usage.Assist with seasonal projects such as aerification, overseeding, sod installation, drainage improvements, and course renovations.Maintain maintenance logs and report equipment issues to supervisors.Work collaboratively with the grounds crew to prepare the course for daily play and special events.Training Objectives:During the internship, participants will gain experience in:Turfgrass identification and managementGolf course maintenance operationsIrrigation system operation and troubleshootingEquipment operation and preventive maintenanceSafe handling of landscaping tools and machineryFertilizer and pesticide application awarenessEnvironmental stewardship and water conservationCrew communication and work planningProfessional workplace expectations within the golf industryQualifications:Active-duty service member approved for participation in the DoD SkillBridge Program.Valid driver's license (preferred).Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn.Desired Skills:Mechanical aptitudeAttention to detailTeamwork and communicationTime managementSafety awarenessAdaptability and problem-solvingCareer Opportunities Upon CompletionSuccessful completion of the internship prepares participants for positions such as:Golf Course Maintenance TechnicianGroundskeeperEquipment OperatorIrrigation TechnicianEquipment TechnicianAssistant Superintendent TraineeTurfgrass Management Technician
