Civil Engineer (USCG Support)
Overview
Bowhead is offering a SkillBridge internship for transitioning service members to gain real-world training in civil engineering while supporting the U.S. Coast Guard. Interns will work alongside professional engineers and project managers, learning to support projects across the 17th Coast Guard District (D17 – Alaska region).
Training Focus Areas
Project scope development, cost estimating, and scheduling
Facility condition assessments & field investigations
Civil engineering troubleshooting and technical support
Exposure to Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build projects
Technical review of drawings, specifications, and reports
Collaboration with engineers, architects, construction managers, and contractors
Site visits in maritime and arctic conditions
Ideal Candidate
Background or interest in civil engineering, facilities management, or construction- 5 years of experience in civil engineering and an Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Familiarity with engineering concepts, drafting (AutoCAD), or technical fields
Desire to transition into a civilian career in engineering or project management
Work Environment
Office-based with travel for fieldwork across Alaska
Field visits may include exposure to weather, remote locations, and facility inspections
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a clearance at the Public Trust level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Public Trust clearance at this location.
