Summary description:
Selected candidates will be classified as Police Interns. The Police intern position designed for candidates interested in a career in law enforcement. Interns shall work under the direction and control of certified Dearborn Police Officers performing reception duties, answering telephone calls, participating in community and public relations programs and special events. He or she will also provide clerical support as needed, to include typing, filing, data entry and other support functions at the discretion of the Chief of Police. In addition, Interns shall be exposed to a wide variety of police training, and activities, all designed to expose the intern to the expectations of a career in Law Enforcement.
Job description:
Week one – eighteen will also be used for candidates to apply for open police officer positions, interview for police officer positions, have back ground investigations completed for open police officer positions, have medical examination completed for open police officer positions, and have psychological examination completed for open police officer positions. This will ensure a smooth transition for accepted candidates from their current military assignment to their law enforcement career at the Dearborn Police Department.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.Must meet all employment standards for Michigan Law Enforcement Officers as established by MCOLES including:A valid driver’s license.Good moral character and no record of criminal convictions (including expungements).U. S. Citizenship.Minimum age, 18 years. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WITH: Military duty with Honorable Discharge Military Reserve or National Guard experience with an Honorable Discharge or currently active with good standing Police Reserve experience SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a satisfactory driving record. Must meet Michigan Law Enforcement Training Council testing requirements and physical standards (to be determined post-job offer) for certification as a police officer.
