The SkillBridge participant will receive training to become a certified Joint Fires Observer Course (JFOC) instructor. Instructors provide resident and Mobile Training Team (MTTs) JFOC instruction to multi-service and coalition students. They conduct academic and simulator instruction; operate and maintain the Call for Fire Trainers (CFFT) simulators and Deployable Virtual Training Environment (DVTE); provide input to Government training developers for the Joint Fires Observer (JFO) Program of Instruction (POI); and maintain and update lesson plans.
Job description:
Each JFOC course is two week’s long which may include up to 24 students. There are approximately 24 courses per year. There are 14 contract instructors. The JFOC Project Lead assigns instructors to teach classes and employ simulators to conduct instruction. The SkillBridge Service Member (SM) training will take place primarily at Fort Sill, OK. As the SM progresses some training may include travel to various other Continental United States (CONUS) sites. The SM takes direction from and reports to the contract’s JFOC Project Lead (PL). The Project Lead assigns a fully certified instructor employee to serve as the SM’s mentor. The mentor and PL ensure the SM understands the training schedule and coordinates with the other instructor employees to ensure the SM becomes trained on at least seven JFOC academic topics and all JFOC simulations. Additionally, the PL coordinates with the government to schedule the SM to complete pre-requisite training (called Blackboard training) prior to attending a formal two-week instructor course known as the Common Faculty Development – Instructor Course. Provide the full spectrum of JFOC training including, classroom, hands-on, simulation/virtual and exercises in a safe environment to as many as 24 multi-service and coalition students during each 2-week long course up to 24 courses per year.• Conduct resident JFOC training on assigned classes/simulations approximately 11 courses/year• Conduct approximately 50% of the 13 Mobile Training Team (MTT) JFOC courses (i.e., 6 or 7 courses)on assigned classes/simulations.• Monitor, set-up, tear down, stage for shipment, and operate a Call for Fire Trainer (CFFT) simulator (or future simulator replacement) as part of the Program of Instruction (POI) on JFO procedures in resident and as a part of a MTT. In the event of a simulator malfunction, coordinate with the government to fix the simulator problem.• Administer exams, evaluate test results, correlate test results of the students’ abilities and provide recommendations to academic deficiency panels, if appropriateType of Instructional Model: In person classroom, hands on and demonstration with some minor online training at the training site.The SM will serve as an intern while in the training program. Training Timeline: Depending on the experience of the SM, training can be up to 180 days, but no less than 60 days. Usually, the normal timeline is between 90 and 120 days. During the training period, the SM will receive training materials, audit classes and train with a mentor on each block of instruction prior to pitching a block of instruction for formal evaluation. Training Outcome: A trained SM in our JFOC SkillBridge program may be permitted to provide instruction to JFOC students, but only under the direct supervision of a fully certified instructor employee. Upon release from active service commitment and satisfactory completion of training and certification, the former SM is eligible to become an employee as a fully certified JFOC instructor.Certified JFOC instructor employees must stay current on evolving JFOC doctrine and challenge themselves to become certified on every block of instruction besides the initial seven academic blocks to ensure coverage of all classes in case of instructor absences and compete for potential pay raises.
Should the Service Member successfully complete the training to become an employee serving as a JFOC instructor, he will be elegible to serve a qualified and competent instructor on our JFOC instructional team to train service members to serve as Joint Fires Observers to deliver devasting surface-to-surface and air-to-surface fires in close combat operations.

Possess qualifications of a Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) or Forward Air Controller (Airborne) (FAC(A)) and possess the minimum JTAC or FAC(A) experience detailed below. a. JTAC QUALIFICATIONS: Three (3) years of verifiable JTAC experience.(1) JTAC experience starts after successfully graduating from an accredited JTAC Qualification Course and being subsequently certified as a JTAC. Verifiable is defined by providing a copy of the JTAC certification (AF Form 8, AF Form 3827, or a Terminal Attack Control Evaluation form or Service equivalent), which provides the date the individual was certified as a JTAC. This ensures the certification has been documented by the Government.These are the only forms the Government will accept as verification of JTAC experience.(2) As an alternative, personnel who do not possess the above qualifications shall have audited an accredited JFO course of instruction, and meet the following:- Successfully graduated from a FAC(A) course of instruction and shall have 3 years verifiable experience as a FAC(A).b. FAC (A) QUALIFICATION: Three (3) years of verifiable FAC(A) experience. FAC(A) experience starts after successful completion of a FAC(A) course of instruction. Verifiable FAC(A) experience is defined as: proof of certification logged in an Official Flight Record, AF Form 8, or Service equivalent.c. Operational Experience: Operational Experience is defined as three years at an operational unit while performing JTAC or FAC(A) duties. This time shall be active time. If claiming Guard, Reserve or other time, the total drill time shall equal three years. Three years at a Guard or Reserve unit drilling one weekend a month and two weeks per year does not meet this requirement.d. Combined Experience: In lieu of three years verifiable JTAC/FAC(A) experience, a combination of eight years of service can be combined with a minimum of two years of Operational JTAC/FAC(A) experience to satisfy the experience requirement.
