Job description:
WATER PLANT OPERATOR - With the close supervision from higher-grade operators, assists in operating the water treatment plants by making adjustments in chemical feeds, pump rates, and reservoir elevations based on test results, chemical concentrations, and elevation levels. Utilizes the plant SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system to monitor control plant operation. Enters data into the computer database. Operate drinking water Residuals Processing Facilities (RPF) including dredging equipment, residuals collector systems, pumps, and associated online instrument and control systems. Performs the necessary tasks pertaining to the monitoring of field instrumentation indicating operation of pumps, chemical feeders, plant flows, and water quality parameters, under direct supervision of a higher graded operator. Washes filters using programmed backwash techniques in accordance with pre-established hours run, loss of head, and filter effluent turbidity. Must become familiar with the use of self-contained breathing apparatus and related safety equipment. Keeps immediate work area in a clean and neat condition. Collects water samples in accordance with established procedures. Utilizes bench laboratory equipment to analyze samples for parameters including chlorine residual, pH, turbidity, fluoride, temperature and ammonia.
The Baltimore District headquarters is located at 2 Hopkins Place in Baltimore, Maryland. Centrally located in downtown Baltimore and a short walking distance to the historic Baltimore Inner Harbor and Lexington Market.
